Readings 103: Reading Shaw

So few seamen can ever write a good book. One of these few is David W. Shaw who wrote the book I am presently reading entitled “The Sea shall Embrace Them, the tragic story of the Steamship Arctic”. This is a narrative of what has transpired in the aftermath of the collision between the Steamship Arctic and Vesta, the much smaller steamship run by the French.
This is also about the story of its captain, James C. Luce and how they have abandoned men, women and children to their death in the frigid waters.
A must read for seamen everywhere.
