Travels 212: Impressive Marawi City Central Mosque

Upon our arrival in Marawi City, the only Islamic City in the Philippines, I am eager to take on Travey for a spin at the grand mosque they are showcasing in the city. When our gracious host treated us for breakfast at the Marawi Restaurant, I chanced upon this grand mosque in opaque green done and mostly green colors. I asked what name of the mosque has among the city’s residents and they told me it is the Central Mosque.

                                                          Marawi City’s Central Mosque

By its name itself, it suggested that the mosque was called Central Mosque because of its central location and many residents within the city center can go to the mosque and pray. The Mosque was built by the late Acmad Domucao Alonto Sr, the first Maranao who was able to memorize the entire Qur an.

By its grand location, many years and decades back, the Central Mosque is an imposing structure where worshippers even from Lanao will be able to see and embrace.  I am forever impressed of such an Islamic infrastructure in the Philippines much more in Mindanao.

    • You need to ask permission from the Imam of the Mosque when it is indeed opened. When I went there, it was close so hanggang labas lang kami kumukuha ng photos but it was all worth it
